The 1972 Pontiac GTO LeMans was produced during the transitional period for the American auto industry. Gas prices were creeping up and emissions standards were tightening, signaling the muscle car era was ending fast. But amid this backdrop, there emerged a wolf in sheep’s clothing. As beneath the familiar LeMans sheet metal, a potent 455 cubic-inch V8 lurks ready to pounce on unsuspecting opponents. The vinyl top version finished in Monarch yellow is an extremely rare model. It is one of only 7 that were produced with the 455 H.O. engine combined with an automatic transmission.
