After finishing runner-up in the 2012 V8 Supercars Development Series, Scott Pye earned his long-awaited full-time debut in the main game with Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport at the 2013 Clipsal 500 in Adelaide. Behind the wheel of the bright yellow #80 Holden VF Commodore, backed by Ekol and Hog’s Breath Cafe, Pye entered the season as one of the category’s most promising young talents, ready to take the next step in his racing career.
Making his first start as a full-time V8 Supercars driver, Pye quickly settled into the highly competitive field and showed impressive maturity throughout the opening weekend. Competing against many of the sport’s biggest stars, he delivered a clean and consistent performance, avoiding trouble and steadily building confidence with every lap around the Adelaide street circuit.
His efforts were rewarded with a solid 13th-place finish in Race 1, followed by an even stronger 11th-place result in Race 2, narrowly missing out on a top-ten finish. It was an encouraging start to his rookie campaign and demonstrated that he was one of Australia’s most highly rated up-and-coming drivers. The Clipsal 500 debut laid a strong foundation for Pye’s first season in V8 Supercars and marked the beginning of a long career in the championship.
