Shell V-Power Racing Team #17 Ford Mustang GT 2026 Repco Bathurst 1000 Winner – Brodie Kostecki / Todd Hazelwood

The 2026 Repco Bathurst 1000 delivered another unforgettable chapter in the history of Australia’s Great Race, with Brodie Kostecki and Todd Hazelwood claiming a remarkable last-lap victory aboard the #17 Shell V-Power Racing Team Ford Mustang GT.

Starting from second on the grid, Kostecki and Hazelwood established themselves as the dominant combination throughout much of the 161-lap contest at Mount Panorama. The pair controlled the race for extended periods, building a commanding lead of over 20 seconds before a lengthy penultimate pit stop, caused by a delayed right-front brake change, threatened to derail their hopes of victory.

Rejoining almost 30 seconds behind the leader, Kostecki faced an enormous challenge to recover the lost ground. However, a strategic advantage gained through the extended stop allowed the team to delay its final fuel stop until lap 150, setting up a thrilling charge to the finish.

Returning to the circuit in fourth position, 18 seconds off the lead, Kostecki immediately went on the attack, twice breaking the lap record as he rapidly closed the gap to the cars ahead. A late Safety Car then brought the field together, setting the stage for a dramatic three-lap sprint to the chequered flag.

After moving into second position, Kostecki began hunting down race leader Anton De Pasquale. In an extraordinary final-lap twist, De Pasquale’s Camaro ran out of fuel, allowing Kostecki to sweep into the lead on Mountain Straight and secure a famous Bathurst victory by just 1.1844 seconds.

The result marked a second Bathurst 1000 triumph for both Kostecki and Hazelwood, following their victory together in 2024, and delivered Dick Johnson Racing its fifth win in the iconic endurance race. The #17 Mustang also established a new record for the fastest Bathurst 1000 in history, completing the 1000-kilometre contest in just 5 hours, 54 minutes and 4.7490 seconds.

Beyond the statistics, this was a victory filled with emotion. The scenes broadcast from the Dick Johnson Racing garage as Kostecki crossed the finish line, particularly the reactions of team legends Dick and Jill Johnson, were incredibly moving and a reminder of just how much success at Mount Panorama means to this iconic Australian racing team. It was a moment that will live long in the memories of the team’s passionate supporters, adding another special chapter to the enduring legacy of the famous #17.
